Do The Jets Finally Have Two Premium Tight Ends?

When was the last time that the Jets had a Premium Tight End?

Some might say Dustin Keller, but some believe the NYJs have never had one!

When looking back to the 2021 season, you see Zach Wilson not progressing, with the majority of his team also battling injury. Also, keep in mind, Wilson’s success relied on the hands of Tyler Kroft, Ryan Griffin and even Mims being on the field for short amounts of time, but even Corey Davis struggled with drops and injuries like the majority of the team. Looking at the stats of Kroft and Griffin, they do not really fit the mold of what NY is trying to build, and they are just basically placeholders until further notice.

The Stats Do Not Lie!

This Year’s Stats For Four Jet Tight Ends:

Ryan Griffen – twenty-seven receptions for 261yds, and two touchdowns

Tyler Kroft – six-teen receptions for 173yds, and one touchdown

Kenny Yeboah – receptions for thirty-six yards, and zero touchdowns

Trevon Wesco – three receptions for thirty-five yards, and zero touchdowns

It wasn’t a productive unit in which Wilson could thrive in!

Although, after a productive Free-Agency, the Tight End position is not the biggest concern after bringing in two elite productive Tight Ends in Uzomah and Conklin. This is due to the fact that both Uzomah and Conklin, combined, basically doubled the yards of Griffen, Kroft, Yeboah, and Wesco.

Their Stats Are As Follows:

C.J Uzomah – forty-nine receptions for 493 yards, and five touchdowns

Plus…

Tyler Conklin – sixty-one receptions for 593 yards, and three touchdowns

Equals…

1086yds and eight touchdowns!

Versus…

Kroft, Griffin, Yeboah, and Wesco

Equals…

505yds and three touchdowns!

WHAT A BIG DIFFERENCE!

Dustin Kellers’ best year was in 2010, where he had…

fifty-five receptions for 687yds, and five touchdowns

We basically just doubled that with the new additions!

What Will This Mean For The New York Jets?

This means they can finally run two Tight End sets, which the Jets have tried many times this season. If the Jets manage to get another decent WR this draft, the Jets will have given Zach Wilson a fair/decent chance to be successful. Second year leaps are crucial! Every team needs a Kittle/Kelce and by getting great Tight Ends, it creates so many other possibilities for this team, starting with the run-game. The goal is to make it easier for your QB! Running the ball is something they have struggled with for many years, and now we finally can!
